Merck, the company that manufactures Nasonex, has entered into an agreement with Perrigo Company to make the nasal spray available over-the-counter. Currently, the spray is available in generic form, but it can be obtained only with a prescription.
The agreement means Perrigo will be able to pursue federal regulatory approval for a non-prescription version, called Nasonex OTC Nasal Spray. This will give patients an additional choice when selecting a nasal spray to relieve allergy symptoms.
Perrigo Company, established in 1887, is a global health care company. It’s one of the world’s largest producers of over-the-counter medicines, which it distributes throughout the U.S. and Europe.
